Song #49: Tiny Yong - Huit jours par semaine (off Swinging Mademoiselle Volume 2)
Ahhhhhh I’ve gone on and on about Yéyé, the genre perfectly tailored to my tastes that died out twenty years before I was born, but have I gone on about my love of karaoke?
I can’t sing worth beans, but it doesn’t seem to matter at my karaoke bar of choice. My dashing German partner in crime, BK, and I go almost every week. We try to surprise each other every time, and luckily I’ve yet to run out of girlpop songs that are mostly sing-talking (though I DEFINITELY rocked “Forget About the Boy” on Thursday).
BK, on the other hand, had a hard time finding songs that were both karaoke appropriate AND in his range (high tenor). I issued him some challenge songs - we’ll see if he rises to the occasion. In fairness, though, he returned the favour.
One of my challenge songs is my favourite Beatles song, 8 Days a Week. Not so difficult, right? Well I have to sing it EN FRANÇAIS. Luckily, such things already exist.
Be prepared, audience. I’m going to wow you like that guy who sang “The Way” en français or the amazing girl who sat by herself in the corner, drank an entire pitcher of sangria and perfectly sang 99 Luftballons. I think BK was a little bit smitten. Will Huit jours par semaine win him back? Find out next week!
