Song #017: Hoku- Another Dumb Blonde (from her self-titled album - 2000)

Youtube recommended this song to me based on the plethora of other girlpop videos I’ve watched from the 1998-2003 era, and it made me so nostalgic for sixth grade that I frantically scanned the internet looking for an mp3 version.

I think this song was featured in a movie called Snow Day. While I don’t remember anything about the plot of the film (except that I believe it was set in the winter), I remember the day my mother took my brother, myself and a girl name Emily to see it at a movie theatre that no longer exists. I remember that Emily was a dancer, and she refused to eat McDonalds when we went for dinner after the movie. I remember that Emily’s mother was the only parent to ever dislike me at first glance. I remember that Another Dumb Blonde was the best part of that whole stupid movie.

As I’ve said in at least two other posts, I love stupid teen pop empowerment songs. I think it should be its own genre, because every good pop vocalist has at least one per album. I bought into girl power way too much when I was a tween, and as a young feminist I still support the idea of not putting up with shit and games from guys. I have a “fool me once, shame on you” attitude, and songs like this are still a part of that, even though I’m 10 years older than her initial demographic.

I love nostalgia.
