Song #027: Immaculate Machine - Phone No. (off Ones & Zeroes - 2005)

I know I seem to post a lot of songs about confusion, mind games and casual sex. I can’t really explain that. Sure, they have mostly the same theme, but to lump them all together would be a shame. Some are empowerment ballads in which the artist says, “You know what? This isn’t for me.” Some are, “Dammit! What does this mean? If only there was more communication!” Others still are, “Wait, one of us is taking this way more seriously than the other…”

Phone No. by Vancouver band Immaculate Machine is about the aftermath of every single one of those songs.

You’ve got my number, she whispered to him over miles, I’d really like to know that everything is fine. I miss you…

She wasn’t the type to regret anything, but she wondered - years later - which decision in this whole _______ship she’d consider her biggest mistake.
