Song #41: Diana Ross + the Supremes - You Can’t Hurry Love

There’s an AMAZING dance night in my city every Saturday. Clinton’s, a bar on Bloor, hosts a party called Shake a Tail, and the DJs spin rock and roll, pop, yéyé, soul and r&b from the 60s and 70s. It gets REALLY packed, especially on long weekends like this past one.

Shake a Tail is good for many things, especially giving myself and my best dudes an unpretentious, safe and fun place to dance. Particularly, though, it’s a great way to enjoy the best dance music of 40 years ago. It’s a rare Shake a Tail night that I don’t leave Clinton’s singing “Help Me Rhonda,” “These Boots Are Made For Walking” or “Creeque Alley.” Invariably, my biggest Shake a Tail earworm is You Can’t Hurry Love by Diana Ross & the Supremes. It’s been stuck in my head since my birthday event on Saturday and I have no intention of replacing it.
